PTC man charged with simple assault in golf cart cap gun incident

It may have seemed like a joke, but a Peachtree City man found out that authorities take pointing objects at other people very seriously.
At around 4:20 p.m. on May 1, a woman complained that she was riding her golf cart with her children when another cart passed them. She said she saw the driver raise his right hand and she saw what she believed to be a small, silver cap gun. The woman told authorities that she heard a sound “similar to hands clapping” and assumed the driver had pulled the trigger on the cap gun.
She called 911 and reported the incident, noting the golf cart was white and had two black males on it. The driver was described as a heavy-set, medium skin toned black male with dreadlocks and appeared to be in his mid-20s. She could only describe the passenger as a smaller black male.
At that time, officers couldn’t locate the cart or the men.
Investigators with the Peachtree City Police Department looked into the matter and on June 5 secured an arrest warrant against Rame Ervin Key, 22, of Peachtree City. Key was charged with Simple Assault.
