Trailer fire off of Rivers Road Fayette County firefighters battled a fire at the Four Seasons trailer park on Rivers Road Monday afternoon.
According to Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services, alert neighbors saw the blaze and a mother and infant were able to get out of the trailer without injury.
The cause of the fire was ashes from a woodburning stove emptied into a combustible bag and left on the porch of the trailer, Nelms said.
Nelms said every winter three or four fires are started this way.
"Ashes need to be cold before you discard them," he noted. "Even after two days, they are still hot and can ignite. Don't think they're out because you don't see a flame."
This was the first major house fire in Fayette County in 2010.
Four Seasons is located in northern unincorporated Fayette County.
