1 child, 1 driver dead in separate traffic accidents

Two separate fatal car accidents occurred in Fayette County Friday, resulting in the deaths of one child and one adult as of press time.

It was a heart wrenching scene near the Pavilion where, according to Fayetteville Police, a Toyota Camry with four children in the back seat attempted to turn left onto Beckett Lane and was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. Friday. All involved in the accident were taken by ambulance or Life Flight to hospitals. One of the four children died, one was in extremely critical condition and the other two were in serious condition at press time.The children were ages 8, 6, 4, and 3 according to police, though further details and identities have not been released as police continue to investigate.
The driver of the Camry was hospitalized with injuries, while the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

Danielle Joyner, 31, of Riverdale was killed in a separate three car collision at the intersection of Highway 279 near Helmer Rd.

According to Josh Shelton with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, EMS transported one of the other drivers to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threating injuries. The third driver involved was not injured. None of the vehicles had other passengers. Shelton said drugs and alcohol are not suspected of playing a role in the crash.
