Wanted man arrested in Peachtree City after fleeing routine traffic stop

By Pat Cooper

A Monday morning traffic stop in Peachtree City became a case of a fleeing suspect, a citywide BOLO and, finally, an arrest for authorities.
On Monday, Peachtree City police conducted a traffic stop on Huddleston Drive and, while the officer was confirming registration and insurance information, the driver suddenly threw the car into drive and took off, heading into a nearby business park. At that point, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Within minutes, the suspect’s description was distributed through the department’s social media and email alert systems and police set up a perimeter in the Planterra Ridge area. Soon, citizens who had received the alerts were calling 911 to give authorities the location of the suspect, who was captured by Peachtree City police and a Fayette County K-9 unit.
Under arrest for numerous traffic charges - Driving With A Suspended License, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Resisting Officer, Loitering and On Premises of Another without Permission - is 24 year old Dontevious Ferrell of Gay, Ga. Ferrell was also wanted for Probation Violation in two other counties.
“The department would like to thank citizens for subscribing to our social media sites and civic alerts to stay informed of emergency events,” said Peachtree City Lt. Mark Brown. “The quick capture of the suspect avoided him committing more crimes in our community.”
