Police have apprehended one suspect and confirmed the death of another after an armed robbery Friday night in which the suspects exchanged fire with an employee at a local restaurant, leaving the employee in critical condition. A third suspect is still at large.
Alvin James Scott 26, of Jonesboro was arrested in Clayton County on Monday morning after police received a tip from a concerned relative of Alonzo Starks, 25, of Morrow, whose body was later found in an abandoned home in Morrow. The third suspect, Leandro Bernard Johnson, 27, of Ellenwood, has not yet been found.
According to Lt. Mike Whitlow, Johnson and Starks entered the Chine Cafe 8 in Fayetteville on Friday night and held three workers at gun point. One of the employees produced a gun and shot Starks, hitting him at least once in the head. Johnson returned fire, injuring one worker who is still in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police received a call from a concerned relative of Starks who believed he may have been involved
in the incident, Whitlow said. The relative provided information that led police to Scott, who gave additional information leading them to an abandoned home in which they found the body of Starks.
Police have issued warrants for Johnson and have said he is driving a 2005 burgundy Buick Lacrosse with a dealer tag.
"The Fayetteville Police have been working the case relentlessly, along with the Morrow Police Department and the Clayton County Police Department, since Friday night when the incident happened," Whitlow said.
