A Fayetteville man is facing charges of vehicular homicide after striking and killing two siblings attempting to change a tire on an I-75 on-ramp.
Kenneth Carl Ebel, 62, told Clayton County Sheriffs he was distracted by something and that the tragedy was an accident. It has been reported the Ebel said he was adjusting his radio.
The two siblings, Savannah Guio Hayter, 30, and Steven Mack, 23, were attempting to change a tire in the tapered, striped area between the on-ramp at Jonesboro Road and I-75 in the late morning hours of Monday, Aug. 26.
Ebel pulled over after the collision and was charged later that day, and eventually arrested on Wednesday.
Ebel's attorney objected to the $30,500 bond set by the court, saying "there is no question that my client is an upstanding citizen. This was a terrible accident," and arguing that as a family man with three children he was no flight risk.
