Mr James Thomas (JT) Walton died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the age of 92 after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Sara Reagan Walton, in December of 2006. JT and Sara were married December 12, 1947 and were residents of Fayette County since 1972.
JT Walton was born and raised in Coweta County. He served in the US Army during WWII in Hawaii. He returned to Atlanta and resumed a 37 year career with the Trust Company of Georgia. He graduated from Atlanta Law School in 1953. He served as a Trustee, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Red Oak First Baptist Church. In later years, JT and Sara were members of Tyrone Christian Church.
He is survived by a sister, Emily Hiller, of Decatur; his sons and daughters in law, Mike and Claudia Walton of Dunwoody, and John and Karen Walton of Blue Ridge. He was most proud of his four grandchildren, Allen (Kate) Walton of Charleston, S.C., Bill (Stephanie) Walton of Columbus, David Walton of Atlanta, and Sara (and fiance Daniel Stewart) Walton of Rome. He was very excited about the pending birth of Allen and Kate's baby, his first great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at Mowell Funeral Home at 180 Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville on April 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation with the family from 1:00 until 2:00.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be graciously received at the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children in his memory.
