The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released a sketch of the suspect in the strange car jacking in Lafayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s parking lot on Dec. 21.
The victims were two women. One is in her sixties who resisted and was pushed to the ground, sustaining scrapes and bruises. The other victim was her older sister, in her eighties. The suspect, a young black man wearing a maroon colored sweatshirt, leapt out of the woods at the two older women shouting, “give it up, give it up, give it up.”
The women were holding purses and Christmas presents and standing near the car. Detective Mike Whitlow with the Fayetteville Police Department said it is unclear what the man was asking for, but he ended up stealing the car and, for reasons unknown, ultimately abandoning it on a nondescript dirt road in Lanett, Ala., an area Whitlow described as "a very, very rural area literally in the middle of nowhere.”
Whitlow said in most of these cases the car would be damaged in some way, or stripped down for parts. In this case the car was found perfectly intact, and the suspect even left behind evidence that the Fayetteville P.D. hopes will lead to an arrest.
Whitlow said he couldn't remember the last time Fayetteville had a car jacking and described all the circumstances of this particular crime as "bizarre."
