A 33-year-old woman driving a car with a 17 year old male and two small children aboard called 911 on December 29, reporting that another driver had tailgated her aggressively then pulled up next to her and pointed a gun toward her car.
According to Detective Josh Shelton with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, the woman was in Brooks driving south on the 85 connector at the intersection of McIntosh and Robinson Roads. She claimed the aggressive driver was “riding her bumper and flashing his headlights,” and then went to pass her car. She said as the vehicle passed she saw the driver point a gun at her car. One of the two children in the car, age 10 and 13, also reported seeing the gun. The victim then speed away to get away from the man. The victim described the man as a white male driving a silver car.
Detective Shelton said there is no indication of the man’s motive, but thought it “could possibly be a case of road rage.” Shelton says road rage incidents occur quite frequently, and perhaps more frequently than is known since many instances likely go unreported.
