Bearden to Rome

2012-11-28

By Pat Cooper

Outgoing Fayette County school superintendent Jeff Bearden has a new place to go when his term expires on December 31.
Bearden was one of three finalists for a position with the Rome City school system.
He also had been a finalist for the position of superintendent for the Floyd County Board of Education earlier this year but was passed over the position when the board opted to hire from within.
On September 19, the Fayette County Board of Education voted to approve a “mutual termination agreement” with Bearden. The agreement, which includes an additional year’s compensation and benefits, will become effective on January
1.
Bearden’s contract was originally slated to be up in December of this year, but in June the school board extended the contract until June 2015.
Bearden will replace current superintendent Gayland Cooper who is retiring.
