The Greater Fayette Republican Women's Club will meet for lunch on Thursday, November 8th, at 11:30am at Kobe Japanese Steak House, 2876 GA 54, Peachtree City.
The guest speaker will be Ann Yingling, who has been an Advocate for soldiers in the Army’s Wounded Warrior Program (AW2) since 2008. AW2 is the official U.S. Army program that oversees and serves severely wounded, injured and ill soldiers, returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families. The program started at Walter Reed and later was instituted in VA hospitals and military installations across the country. Ann is the Advocate for the program at the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur. Her territory covers a region that includes the Atlanta metropolitan area and beyond to the North Georgia Mountains, Athens, and Columbus.
Ann grew up in Kansas, has a Master’s Degree in Counseling, and was a high school counselor when she met her future husband, Jay, a U.S. Army Lieutenant stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. After their marriage, Ann spent over 30 years as an army wife, moving twenty times around the U.S.A. and to Germany, Korea, and Hawaii. during Jay’s time on active duty, Ann gained insight into the life of Army families and used her counseling skills as a volunteer. Through the years, she was involved in many organizations that helped soldiers and their families. When Jay retired from the Army as a Major General, Ann decided it was “her turn”. Because of her experience as an Army wife and her desire to continue working with Army families, she applied and was selected for the Advocate position.
Ann and Jay reside in Peachtree City and have three adult children and a granddaughter. Their son Scott, and daughter-in-law, Chelsey, continue the family “business” as active duty Soldiers, stationed at Ft Bliss, TX. Scott and Chelsey each had a year-long deployment last year, and during the four months when their deployments overlapped, Ann and Jay were activated as their “family care plan”, taking in their toddler granddaughter. Jay and Ann also have two daughters—Brooke is a teacher in Colorado Springs and Libby and her husband live in Chicago.
