Thanks to a $22,945 grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, the school has replaced its more than 15-year old playground equipment with a modern play set that is more physically challenging and safer.
After a ribbon cutting led by Fayetteville Lowe’s Store Manager Louis Bonora, the play area was officially open to the school’s students.
Hood Avenue Primary’s PTO had been working on raising money to replace the old equipment, but realizing that it would take several years to get enough funds to renovate the playground, the PTO, with support of the school’s administration, submitted a grant request through Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. PTO president Arnold Powell and former principal Julie Turner were instrumental in writing the grant.
Since its inception in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2011, Lowe’s and Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $32 million to support community and education projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico. |
