Dementia Caregiver Support Group - The Sixty Plus Program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a monthly support group for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, the group will provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members and friends who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal and financial aspects of this condition will be discussed at meetings. The group is facilitated by a licensed social worker and is open to anyone in the community. Co-sponsored by Sixty Plus Older Adult Services and the Alzheimer’s Association. The group meets the Third Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Fayette Hospital, West entrance, 1267 Building Cancer Wellness Center, third floor. The 31st Annual LaFayette Marching Classic will take place at Fayette County High School’s Tiger Stadium on Oct. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. A total of 12 high school bands from Georgia and Tennessee will compete with a total of eight finalist bands chosen from the field of participants. The Fayette County High School Marching Tigers, sponsors of the competition, will give an exhibition performance as will the Georgia State University Marching Band. The public is invited to attend. Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center in Peachtree City will host a free Screen Acting Workshop for teens age 13 – 18 on Oct. 20, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. The “Secrets of Screen Acting” workshop will be conducted by professional actor Bill Neenan, who holds a master’s degree in Actor Training from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Neenan is teaching ongoing classes at Kedron Fieldhouse and is offering this introductory workshop for teens at no cost. The Fayette County Humane Society is desperately seeking golfers for its first charity golf tournament, "Fore the Paws," which will be held on Nov. 7, at the Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City.
