A cat fight took place under the lights Friday with the Whitewater Wildcats taking on the Northgate Vikings. It was a hard fight all night for both teams on offense and defense. At the end the Wildcats came out on top 33-26.
It was a strange start to the game as the first score for Northgate came from a holding call on the Cats in the end zone for a safety and two points. The next drive for the Vikings led to a touchdown and they went up 9-0.
The Wildcat offense would later fight back and score with a touchdown pass from Jay Ashley to Trevor Morgan to make the score 9-6. The next drive for the Cat offense would also lead to a touchdown on a 4 yard run by Kendall Conley.
On the next possession for the Vikings netted another strange score. They would drive down the field and fumble a ball that rolled into the endzone and was recovered by their own player to make the score 16-13. When the Vikings kicked off they were able to force a fumble that would lead to a another touchdown to make the score 23-13 at the half.
The Wildcats would start the second half on offense and drive down the field and score with a two yard run by Conley to make it a 23-19 deficit.
The defense for the Cats would start the half on fire, making Northgate punt he ball back to the offense, who again drove down the field and scored on a 10 yard run by Christian Wafford.
When Northgate went back on offense it was a hard fought battle with the Wildcats defense. It was back and forth with good plays on offense and defense but in the end the Vikings would settle for a field goal to make the score 26-25.
With only minutes left in the game the Wildcats were back on offense needing a score to win. The Cats would drive down the field with multiple runs by Kendall Conley who with one final run would leap into the endzone for the winning score and a 33-26 victory.
In the end it was a good night for both the Wildcat offense and defense because they would never give up even in times of adversity. The Cats were led the whole night by Kendall Conley and Trevor Morgan on offense. Conley rushed for 205 yards, 165 of them in the second half, and three touchdowns.
For the defense it would be lead by defensive tackle Caleb Martinez, cornerback Malcholm Graham, and safety Jake Carlson.
Now with this game in the books the Wildcats are 5-1 with a five game winning streak. The Cats are also undefeated in region play pushing them one step closer to a region championship. Next for the Whitewater Wildcats is Senior Night where they take on a very tough McIntosh Chiefs team. |
